Let’s exfoliate! It was a weekend of exfoliation in more ways than one. I was able to clean out 2 of my 5 closets. All my closets are “Monica Closets”, mind you. I can’t bear to part with anything much, I also cannot abide clutter… therefore… CLOSETS! It’s been a while since I set out to purge my life the closets. I even SHREDDED papers and said goodbye to things I’d been holding onto since the divorce. Only 3 more closets to go!
I put together a sugar scrub and we’re putting it on our lips. Don’t get scared, but I used a small amount of essential oils. Ooh FANCY, right?! Please don’t feel like you have to go out and buy EOs for this recipe; the scrub works just as well without them.
Lavender Mint Sugar Scrub (lips):
1 part Honey
1 part Coconut Oil
1 part Avocado Oil
1 Tablespoon Brown Sugar
1 drop Lavender Essential Oil
1 drop Peppermint Essential Oil
Directions: (see slide show at top of post for abbreviated version)
Mix all ingredients together in a small glass bowl. The oils will separate a bit from the bulk of the sugar mixture so it is necessary to take a bit of the mixture and roll into a ball. Standing over the sink, begin to apply mixture to lips then do some VERY light circles for about 2 or 3 minutes to reveal fresh new skin. Rinse well and follow with your preferred lip balm.
If you don’t have avocado oil, you can use any other carrier oil (sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, just don’t use vegetable oil).
Notes: I am not a regular lip balm user even though my lips get dry. This scrub was the right thing to try at the right time. I do recommend that after you do this treatment you apply your preferred lip balm. The scrub has moisturizing oils (fats) but you rinse most of it off. My lips were very smooth after this treatment.
I made a tiny portion of this scrub, since I was only going to use it on my lips, but it will keep for a week or so if you put it in an airtight container and refrigerate it.
Here are the properties of the ingredients in the
Lavender Mint Sugar Scrub (lips)*:
Honey: hydrates, soothes, cleanses
Coconut Oil: moisturizer, helps heal chapped lips
Avocado Oil: vitamin E, enhances the “pinkness” of your lips
Brown Sugar: exfoliate, draws moisture to skin, encourages cell turnover
Essential Oil blend: I used lavender and peppermint EOs together for relief of stress
If you try this and like it or have your own favorite concoction tell me about it in the comments. What are some of the ways that you like to practice self-care and wellness?
* I am not a beauty expert. I have tested this recipe on my own lips (yep, that’s me, that’s my face in the pic). Be mindful of your own sensitivities/allergies when trying anything new (ESPECIALLY on your FACE). If you experience ANY burning or irritation rinse immediately and do not repeat use. Natural does not always mean safer.
