It’s a beautiful day here in Northeast Florida. We’ve been cleaning house and getting things done. All the windows are open and there’s a breeze fluffing up the curtains. The cat is mesmerized, the dog is napping on the couch and I just ate my lunch; a bowl of quinoa, black beans, scallions, mushrooms, tomatoes, avocado topped with a healthy dollop of pesto. After a month of feeling disgruntled about my health insurance and what they don’t cover I got an email about a free* personal weight loss program (Realappeal.com) in which I could enroll, through my insurance provider (i.e. it’s one of the benefits* of my plan).
There’s an app to use for tracking activity/food, weekly online group sessions, one-on-one sessions with a success coach and other support materials – and it’s a 52-week program so I have the year to do the work necessary to get back to a state of well-being.
So far so good.
My goal is to lose 40 pounds and get my blood pressure under control. I worry about my heart all the time, honestly. The other day I told my mom about this new program and the anxiety I’ve been having about my heart and she said: You have your Dad’s heart, you’ll be fine.
I love her so much. I do have my Dad’s heart and I WILL be fine. Today, I revamped my shopping list from when I was on Whole30 and added a meal planner. The program provides these tools, of course, but mine are prettier so I’m using these instead.

Fun fact: I recently gave up caffeine, since it started giving me the jitters, and switched to tea. Teavana’s Mint Majesty is my current favorite. It’s caffeine free and I’m finding out mint tea has a lot of health benefits; improves digestion, reduces pain, and eliminates inflammation, relaxes the body and mind, cures bad breath, aids in weight loss and boosts the immune system. You can get it at Starbucks, I add two raw sugar packets to the grande size and sip on it all morning.
